You don’t need to be perfect

Though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand. Psalm 37:24

You don’t need to be perfect.

It is okay to make mistakes, don’t come down hard on yourself when you make a mistake. For without mistakes we wouldn’t be able to improve, to learn, to grow as a person. I know personally, I find it hard to accept my mistakes, I like everything to be perfect, in place and in order. I find myself continually thinking back to most mistakes I make, even if it is something really small, and I find myself repeatedly criticising myself and feeling overwhelmingly embarrassed. But as I sit here and write this, God reminds me that, he doesn’t expect me or you to be perfect, he knows we are only human, he knows how hard it is for us in a world which is centred around money, lifestyle, work and rush.

A particular verse stands out to me, it is from Philippians 3:13 it reiterates that ‘Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.’ In the context of mistakes, I believe that this verse can be used to encourage us to forget what lies behind us (all of the mistakes we have made) and strive forward to where God has planned us to go. I acknowledge that though it is important for us to grow and learn from our mistakes, we are not supposed to dwell on them. We must dwell on the goal that God has placed on our hearts and continually strive to reach it, no matter how many mistakes we may make on the way, we must keep on running our race.

I hope this has encouraged you that imperfections are perfectly normal. God does not look down on you all he does is whisper, it is okay my child, get up and continue your race.

Prayer for today: God I thank you that you are filled with grace and forgive all the mistakes I may make. I thank you that you tell me not to be downcast but to give my life (and my hands) to you and continue the race that you have destined for me.

Song for today: I encourage you to listen to Highest Praise by Amanda Cook
