Be generous without grumbling

“Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.”

  • 1 Peter 4:9 NIV

What are you thinking whilst you are helping out someone? Are you filled with joy and compassion? Or do you feel burdened and despise every moment of it? well…this verse states that when we offer hospitality to another it should be the first of the two options: with joy and compassion; without grumbling (defined by Merriam-Webster as a mutter of discontent). When we offer hospitality it should come from a heart of love and willingness to help someone in need out. To be hospitable is to be friendly, welcoming, generous and kind. These are the attributes which should underly our thoughts whilst offering acts of kindness to others. if we are resentful of the act, then it defeats the whole purpose of completing it. Remember, the heart is what is important, for this is what our Father looks at.

Next time you offer hospitality, I encourage you to welcome it with open hands and a generous smile and without grumbling.

Prayer for today: God I thank you that you give me the opportunities to offer hospitality to others, and I thank you that I complete these acts without grumbling but with joy and content.
