The best lifeguard around
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom i take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2
Psalm 18 is about a time in David’s life where the Lord delivered him from his enemies. It gives us a glimpse of the pain and fright that David had experienced specifically in the verse where David comments that ‘the cords of death entangled me, the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me’. Often, it can feel like we are in the same position; we may feel overwhelmed from the enemies in our life; whether it is anxiety, paranoia, obligations which are weighing down on us or even hurtful words spoken upon us. These can all tear us down until we are in the same state that David was in; fearful and all-consumed.
But, as David shows us in this psalm; when we are in these situations all we have to do is call upon God in our distress, in which our Heavenly Father will answer us.
I especially love God’s’ response to David’s plea for help. He is fuming at the nostrils, the earth is trembling from his voice thundering from heaven. He reaches down towards earth, and takes hold of David (and you) drawing him out of the deep waters that David found himself in.
So I encourage you, when in deep waters and where the ‘cords of death’ are consuming you; call upon God because He hears you, rescues you and provides the support you need.
Prayer for today: Thank you God that when I may be in distress, and feel like there is no way out of my situation, you comfort me and reach down from heaven and hold me in your arms.
