Pushing through our fears

Fear often affects us all in our lives, and reduces our joy and our confidence in ourselves. Scientists say we are only born with two natural fears, the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises, and the rest we tend to learn.

We begin to fear the future, fear the unknown, fear loss, fear failure and fear how people will respond to us.
I have found the best way to deal with these often irrational fears is to say to ourselves the truth contained so clearly in these bibles verses.
1. God Doesn’t Want us to Live in Fear
Paul says “For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7
The first step is to understand that God doesn’t want our lives filled with fear.

2. God loves us so much that we can let go of our fears
John says “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18
Since God loves us unconditionally, we can begin to let go of our fears.

3. Understand What Fear Is
Joyce Meyer calls fear “False Evidence Appearing Real”. When we realise that our fears are usually irrational, and unfounded, it helps us to push through our fears and do what we believe we should be doing.

Prayer for today: God I thank-you that your words says perfect love casts out all fear. I pray that you would give me the eyes to see how you see. Amen
